Economic Potential
The global ocean economy was valued at roughly US$2.6 trillion in 2020, contributing an estimated 3–4% of global value added — large enough that were it a country, it would rank as the world's fifth-largest economy (OECD, 2025).
For Nigeria alone, NIMASA estimates untapped blue-economy potential of approximately US$296 billion. Realizing this value depends less on infrastructure than on people: an industry-ready workforce able to operate, innovate, and lead.
